The Ruby Valley and Southwestern Montana enjoy some of the State's best recreational activities.   Whatever your outdoor sport of choice, this region offers world class conditions for fishing, horseback riding, hunting, hiking, biking, snowmobiling, nordic skiing, snowshoeing, dirt biking, and of course, just lounging.

Fishing

Fly fishing for wily German browns, athletic rainbows, and darting brook trout is the best the Rocky Mountain Region has to offer. The waters of Alder Creek on the Cal Creek Ranch provide good habitat for browns in the 3-5 pound category along with brook and rainbow trout. The renowned Madison River is 25 minutes to the east. The Beaverhead, Big Hole and Jefferson Rivers are just 20 minutes from the Ranch and provide the devoted angler miles of water, certainly enough to enjoy for a lifetime.
The Ruby River is one of the most sought-after personal sized-streams in the West. One of the world's finest five star fishing lodges, Ruby Springs Lodge, is located immediately adjacent to the western boundary of Cal Creek Ranch. The Ruby Reservoir is only 11 miles south of the ranch headquarters and provides enjoyable lake fishing and boating opportunities. The Valley's incredible reputation for trout fishing is supported by the presence of internationally known R.L. Winston Rod Company in Twin Bridges. Numerous fly-fishing shops and guide services for both hunting and fishing are located in Ennis, Sheridan, Twin Bridges, and Dillon.
Trail Sports

Surrounded by the Beaverhead National Forest, the Ranch rests in the lap of high beautiful mountains...the Tobacco Root, Ruby, Gravelly, Snowcrest and Madison Ranges provide unlimited opportunities for high mountain recreation and enjoyment. The range of trails for equestrian, hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoe, snowmobile, and ATV trips is practically unlimited, offering year-round outdoor fun.
Hunting

Cal Creek Ranch properties offer a wide range of outstanding big game and bird hunting opportunities. The diverse ecosystem provides prime habitat for trophy elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, and antelope. The wildlife report prepared by a prominent local biologist stated, "Elk numbers are on the increase and can be seen on the ranch in herds approaching 100 head in the Fall of the year. Several hundred elk are known to range on parts of the ranch." In addition, this ecosystem also supports black bear, mountain lion, bobcat, lynx, and coyotes.
A great variety of bird species are found on the Ranch in significant numbers. Pheasants, blue grouse, sage grouse, Hungarian partridge, Canadian geese and several species of ducks and predatory birds also make their home on the Ranch.
Shopping, Dining, & Entertainment

With some excellent outfitters, new restaurants serving fine cuisine, and a mixture of art galleries, Ennis is definitely a town on the rise. In addition, Cal Creek Ranch Properties surround the richly historical towns of Virginia City and Nevada City, which offer museums, shops, restaurants and modern overnight accommodations all in a great 19 th century atmosphere. The Virginia City Opera House, established in 1949, remains the oldest continuous summer theatre in the Northwestern United States. Home of the Virginia City Players, performances are held nightly from mid-June through Labor Day. Complimenting these productions are the rollicking Brewery Follies. Performed in Montana's first brewery, the H.S. Gilbert Brewery, they are sure to keep you coming back. A visit to historic Nevada and Virginia city gives visitors a taste of life in the Wild West during the rip-roaring gold rush days!
